KoGuan School of Law Visited the Faculty of Law of the University of British Columbia in Canada

On April 28, Peng Chengxin, Dean of the KoGuan School of Law of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, led a delegation to visit the Peter A. Allard School of Law, University of British Columbia, Canada. The purpose of this visit was to strengthen the friendly cooperative relationship with the Law School of the University of British Columbia and further expand the cooperation areas for the cultivation of legal talents with international perspectives. The members of the delegation included Professor Guo Yanjun, Deputy Dean of the KoGuan School of Law, Chair Professor Wang Xianlin, Executive Director Yuan Ye of the Law Library, and Yin Lan, Deputy Director of the Internationalization Office.

The delegation had friendly exchanges with Professor Ngai Pindell, Dean of the Law School of the University of British Columbia, Professor Graham Reynolds, Associate Dean in charge of research and international affairs, Professor Jie Cheng, Associate Dean in charge of postgraduate and professional programs, as well as several project leaders. The two sides had in-depth discussions on issues such as the construction of the curriculum system for postgraduate law programs, interdisciplinary training models, faculty sharing, and the selection mechanism for international students, and explored cooperation intentions in aspects such as summer student exchanges and curriculum project cooperation.

Under the guidance of George Tsiakos, Director of the Law Library, the delegation visited the Law Library. The delegation expressed appreciation for the rich collection and advanced facilities of the library and looked forward to carrying out cooperation in the sharing of academic resources in the future.

In the specially set "Fireside Chat" session, Peng Chengxin, in the form of a Fireside Chat, had an in-depth exchange with the teachers and students of the Peter A. Allard School of Law on the theme of "China's Approach: The 'Third Way' in Data Governance". The conversation started with an introduction to the unique model pioneered by China in the field of data governance. Peng Chengxin particularly emphasized the relationship between data security and the efficient circulation and utilization of data, pointing out that on the basis of ensuring data security, the efficient circulation and utilization of data should be achieved through the coordination of laws and policies. The exchanges were lively, and everyone discussed the innovative aspects, challenges, and future development directions of China's data governance model from different perspectives. This "Fireside Chat" not only gave the teachers and students of the Peter A. Allard School of Law a comprehensive and profound understanding of China's "third way" in data governance, but also built a bridge for exchanges and cooperation in the field of data governance between Chinese and foreign legal circles.

This visit is an important measure for the KoGuan School of Law to expand the cultivation of legal talents with international perspectives, injecting new impetus into the cultivation of interdisciplinary legal talents with international horizons. The KoGuan School of Law will always adhere to the concept of "openness, integration, mutual learning, and common progress", take talent cultivation as a link, and knowledge innovation as a driving force, providing more practical and effective intellectual support and talent guarantee for the modernization of the global governance system.
