Dean Karl Harald Soevig from Faculty of Law, University of Bergen Visits KoGuan School of Law

On March 21, Dean Karl Harald Soevig and Professor Bjoernar Borvik of the Faculty of Law, University of Bergen from Norway visited KoGuan School of Law at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The delegation was warmly received by Dean and Professor Peng Chengxin, Deputy Dean and Professor Guo Yanjun, and Assistant Dean and Associate Professor He Juan, and the two sides held a friendly conversation.

During the meeting, after extending his warmest welcome to the delegation, Professor Peng Chengxin reviewed the good foundation of cooperation established by the two sides since 2017 and the pleasant outcome that more than 20 exchange students have benefitted from the collaboration. He also briefly presented the history of KoGuan School of Law, along with the current faculty and academic research conditions. Professor Karl Harald Soevig shared the educational philosophy, research characteristics and achievements of the Faculty of Law, University of Bergen.

The two sides conducted in-depth discussions on promoting student exchange programs and the collaboration about the summer school of Chinese law. The delegation from the University of Bergen spoke highly of the achievements of KoGuan School of Law in the field of legal education and research, and also expressed the hope to further strengthen the collaboration between the two universities in the fields of talent cultivation and academic research, specifically about the possibility of opening a course with the theme of international law and EU law. It was unanimously agreed that both institutions would significantly benefit from deeper educational collaboration and academic exchanges.

This visit indicates a key step in the cooperation between KoGuan School of Law at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Faculty of Law, University of Bergen in the field of legal education. Both institutions are determined to adhere to the principles of mutual benefit and collaboration, to actively implement the outcomes of their discussions, and to jointly establish the exchange platform. They will focus on aspects such as student exchanges, curriculum design, and mutual visits by teaching staff to nurture more legal talents with international vision and expertise.

 

Introduction to the Faculty of Law, University of Bergen, Norway

 The University of Bergen (Universitetet i Bergen) is a multidisciplinary university in Norway, located in Bergen, Norway's second largest city. The university was founded in 1946, but its academic activities can be traced back to the establishment of the Bergen Museum in 1825. The University of Bergen is a member of the Coimbra Group, an association of long-established European multidisciplinary universities of high international standard. Founded in 1980, the Faculty of Law at the University of Bergen is one of the younger faculties of the university, but it has grown rapidly to become an important legal education and research institution in Norway.
