KoGuan School of Law Delegation Visits UNIDO Headquarters

On October 10th, 2024, a KoGuan School of Law delegation led by Dean and Professor Peng Chengxin visited the headquarters of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). Deputy Dean and Professor Guo Yanjun, Assistant Dean and Associate Professor He Juan, , Assistant Dean and Associate Professor Wang Jie, and Deputy Director of International Office Ms. Zhang Chenxi participated in this visit.

UNIDO and its Shanghai Investment Promotion Center (UNIDO-SIPC) are long-term strategic partners of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Together with KoGuan School of Law, they have jointly established one of the first foreign-related legal talents collaborative training innovation bases approved by the Ministry of Education, to cultivate legal professionals with multidisciplinary backgrounds, including law, science and technology, foreign languages, and international relations. The purpose of this visit was to further deepen cooperation and accelerate the cultivation of foreign-related legal talents.

Director of the Office of Evaluation and Internal Oversight Mr. Javier Guarnizo warmly welcomed KoGuan School of Law delegates and provided a detailed overview of UNIDO’s organizational structure as well as the core functions and objectives of his division. Dean Peng Chengxin shared KoGuan School of Law’s achievements in cultivating foreign-related legal talents. The two sides engaged in fruitful discussions on talent development for international organizations, student internships, and potential employment opportunities. Mr. Guarnizo expressed high praise for the fifteen outstanding students KoGuan School of Law has sent to international organizations over the past decade, including four graduates who interned at UNIDO. He expressed optimism about expanding cooperation in developing the base for foreign-related legal talents and exploring new pathways for training talent for international organizations.

Head of UNIDO’s Human Resources Office Ms. Draga Paskova gave a comprehensive introduction to the organization’s internship programs. She emphasized the importance of these internships in helping young people understand the culture of international organizations and explore their career interests. She also commended Chinese students for their diligence and outstanding performance.

Director of the Office of Legal Affairs Mr. Behrouz Moradi shared insights into the core competencies required for legal talents in international organizations, his personal work experiences, and typical cases handled by the Office of Legal Affairs. He stressed the importance of continuous learning, cross-cultural communication, and a global perspective, offering valuable suggestions for the cultivation of foreign-related legal talents.

This visit not only showed KoGuan School of Law’s commitment to cultivating foreign-related legal talents and strengthening cooperation with international organizations but also demonstrated its efforts to promote the international development of students. In the future, KoGuan School of Law will continue to deepen exchanges and cooperation, exploring new models for the training of foreign-related legal talents.
