On October 12th, 2024, a KoGuan School of Law delegation led by Dean and Professor Peng Chengxin visited the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Deputy Dean and Professor Guo Yanjun, Assistant Dean and Associate Professor He Juan, Assistant Dean and Associate Professor Wang Jie, and Deputy Director of International Office Ms. Zhang Chenxi participated in this visit.
Director of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) Operations Division Mr. Zhao Ting from WIPO, an alumnus from Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s Class of 1979, warmly welcomed KoGuan School of Law delegates. He provided a detailed overview of WIPO’s history, core functions, and the operations of the PCT Division, reflecting on WIPO’s long-standing relationship and collaboration with China. Dean Peng Chengxin introduced the latest developments of KoGuan School of Law, including the school’s history, faculty strength, international reputation, and student quality. He emphasized the school’s efforts to cultivate foreign-related legal talents, as one of the fastest-growing law schools in China.
The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on the cultivation of foreign-related legal talents. Dean Peng expressed KoGuan School of Law’s commitment to nurturing legal professionals with global perspectives and cross-cultural communication skills. He also expressed a desire to expand the school’s existing collaboration with WIPO by enhancing the development of the foreign-related legal talents training base, strengthening cooperation on talent development for international organizations, and launching joint research projects. Dean Peng stressed the importance of offering students internships and working opportunities at WIPO. Zhao Ting fully agreed and expressed his eagerness to engage in more extensive and deeper cooperation with KoGuan School of Law, particularly in advancing research on international intellectual property issues and building joint think tanks.
KoGuan School of Law also visited the headquarters of the International Labour Organization (ILO), where they met with Ms. Zhang Yiwen, a 2018 graduate of the school’s Master of Law program and the first recipient of the Dean’s Excellence Award, who currently works at ILO. Zhang shared her working experience at the ILO and discussed the organization’s needs and potential in cultivating foreign-related legal talents. Dean Peng Chengxin congratulated Zhang on her outstanding performance in the international organization and expressed gratitude for her continued support of the school. He reiterated that KoGuan School of Law places great importance on cooperation with international organizations and hopes to further strengthen its collaboration with the ILO and other international institutions. Zhang expressed her willingness to contribute to the school’s international cooperation efforts and talent development.
Through this series of exchanges with international organizations, KoGuan School of Law further clarified its goals and direction in cultivating foreign-related legal talents. The visit demonstrated the school’s proactive approach to international cooperation and its strong commitment to nurturing foreign-related legal professionals. In the future, KoGuan School of Law will continue to deepen its cooperation with international organizations, exploring new models for training foreign-related legal talents.
