Shanghai Jiao Tong University Delegation Wins National First Prize in The 17th Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition

The International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition (IHL) is organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) with the aim of promoting education and dissemination of knowledge on humanitarian law, exploring the profound meanings of humanitarian law. It stands out as one of the most influential events in the international moot court arena. Each year, it creates virtual cases focusing on current global issues, unfolding within the context of the pre-trial phase of the International Criminal Court. The proceedings and pleadings are conducted entirely in English.

From November 24th to November 26th, the 17th International Humanitarian Law English Moot Court Competition took place. The competition saw the participation of 60 teams from prestigious institutions such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, making it one of the largest moot court competitions in the country. Following intense competition, the Shanghai Jiao Tong University delegation achieved the National First Prize, securing the overall fifth position in the country.

The Shanghai Jiao Tong University delegation for this edition was led by Wang Sijie (Undergraduate, Class of 2021), with Wang Sijie (Undergraduate, Class of 2021) and Zhao Chenxi (Undergraduate, Class of 2022) serving as moot court advocates. Yuan Yijun (Undergraduate, Class of 2021) and Zhang Jingjing (Undergraduate, Class of 2022) took on the roles of researchers, while Ma Wanyi (Undergraduate, Class of 2020) served as the student coach.
