On October 11, 2022, the "Theory and Practice of Corporate Compliance" seminar and the donation ceremony of “Shanghai Jiao Tong University KoGuan School of Law - Hylands Compliance Research Fund” were successfully held as one of the series events of the 20th anniversary celebration of KoGuan School of Law.

This seminar was hosted by KoGuan School of Law, organized by Compliance Research Center and Securities Crime Research Center of KoGuan School of Law, and co-organized by Shanghai Office of Hylands Law Firm (“Hylands Shanghai”). Experts and scholars at the seminar heatedly discussed topics such as the fundamental theory and frontier problems in practice of corporate compliance, and compliance management of listed companies and financial institutions.

At the beginning of the conference, dean of KoGuan School of Law, Chengxin Peng, delivered a welcome speech. Dean Peng introduced the history and development plans of KoGuan School of Law, gave a macro overview and guidance on the topic of this seminar based on the strategy of “pursuing law-based governance in all respects in a socialist country that follows the rule of law”, and expressed the wish that more academic sparks would emerge from the conference. In addition, Dean Peng expressed his sincere respect and gratitude to Hylands Law Firm for its donation to the Education Development Foundation of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the establishment of the Hylands Compliance Research Fund to support the construction of Compliance Research Center.

Professor Mang Zhu, Director of Compliance Research Center delivered a speech. Prof. Zhu introduced the background that KoGuan School of Law was among the first law schools in China to set up a research center focusing on corporate compliance, and expressed his gratitude for the care and support from judicial practice sections, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Education Development Foundation of SJTU to Compliance Research Center. Prof. Zhu also expressed his hope that this seminar would bring together the cutting-edge views of both academia and practice and wished this seminar a great success.

Qiang Xu, Director of Hylands Shanghai, Director of the National Board of Directors and Lead Partner of Hylands National Compliance and Government Regulation Committee, delivered a speech as the head of the compliance research fund donor. Director Xu introduced the history, scale and advantage points of Hylands, its development of various practice areas and especially the outstanding performance in corporate compliance. At the same time, he expressed the hope to take this cooperation as an opportunity to further strengthen the multi-dimensional cooperation between Hylands and KoGuan School of Law, promote the coordination of practice and doctrine, and cooperate to cultivate more capable law students with high quality.

Afterwards, the donation ceremony was held for the “Shanghai Jiao Tong University KoGuan School of Law - Hylands Compliance Research Fund”, which was jointly signed by Dean Chengxin Peng and Director Qiang Xu.
