On the afternoon of June 3, a delegation from the City University of Macau, led by Professor Ye Guiping, Vice Rector of the University and Head of the Delegation, and Professor Li Hongjiang, Programme Coordinator of the Faculty of Law and Deputy Head of the Delegation, visited KoGuan School of Law at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. A cooperative exchange meeting was held in Conference Room 203 of the KoGuan Law Building. Attendees from KoGuan School of Law included Dean Professor Peng Chengxin, Chair Professor Wang Xianlin, Distinguished Professor Han Changyin, Associate Dean Professor Lin Xifen, Associate Dean Associate Professor Cao Bo, Assistant Dean Associate Professor Zhang Guobin, Assistant Professor Li Hongji, and Yin Lan, Deputy Director of the International Office.

    The meeting consisted of three parts: an introduction to the basic circumstances of both institutions, an exchange of views on specific agenda items, and concluding remarks from the leadership. On behalf of KoGuan School of Law, Dean Peng Chengxin extended a warm welcome to the delegation from the City University of Macau. He noted that KoGuan School of Law, as a designated training base for foreign-related legal talent at both the Ministry of Education and the Shanghai Municipal level, has in recent years continuously deepened its efforts in cultivating talent for international organizations and advancing cross-border legal research. Each year, the undergraduate Foreign-Related Law Program selects students to participate in overseas study trips to Hong Kong, Europe, and other locations, and has established extensive cooperation with prestigious international universities. In light of China’s strategic need for high-level opening-up, the School looks forward to complementing the strengths of the Faculty of Law at the City University of Macau. Together, they aim to explore new pathways for cultivating interdisciplinary talent proficient in law, Portuguese, and finance, thereby contributing outstanding legal professionals with both patriotic commitment and global vision to the Belt and Road Initiative.
    Professor Ye Guiping expressed gratitude for the warm reception and introduced the distinctive features of the Faculty of Law at the City University of Macau. He noted that the Faculty was established in 2016. Leveraging Macau’s advantages under the "One Country, Two Systems" framework and its role as a bridge to Portuguese-speaking countries, the Faculty has established a Portuguese-language teaching team and resources for regional and country-specific studies. It has developed distinctive strengths in comparative law and frontier legal research, while actively participating in legislative advisory work for the Macau Special Administrative Region. Currently, as the Faculty enters a critical phase of disciplinary upgrading and quality enhancement, it hopes to engage in in-depth cooperation with KoGuan School of Law in areas such as joint student training, collaborative curriculum development, and academic research, achieving resource sharing and mutual benefit.

    During the meeting, the two sides conducted in-depth discussions on topics including student exchanges, faculty secondment and mutual appointments, and academic cooperation, reaching broad consensus on collaborative initiatives. Both sides agreed that, against the backdrop of comprehensively advancing the rule of law and pursuing high-level opening-up, deepening exchanges and cooperation in legal education between Mainland China and Macau is of great significance for cultivating outstanding legal talent who possess both patriotic commitment and a global perspective. Following the meeting, the two parties will refine their cooperation plans and work toward signing a cooperation agreement, jointly contributing to the national strategy on foreign-related rule of law.
    The City University of Macau, formerly known as the University of East Asia founded in 1981, adopted its current name in 2011, marking the beginning of a new chapter of development characterized by "renaming, restructuring, transformation, and upgrading." The University refines its disciplinary strengths in the humanities, arts, business, finance, emerging engineering disciplines, and social sciences. It adheres to the path of a metropolitan university, integrating itself into urban life.
    The Faculty of Law at the City University of Macau began its preparatory work in 2014. With approval from the Macau Higher Education Office, it commenced the establishment of a Master of Laws (LL.M.) programme in September 2015 and officially began enrolling students. The Faculty is dedicated to the study and practice of the Macau legal system as its fundamental teaching objective, possessing distinctive Macau characteristics. It has invited a number of scholars and practitioners who are authoritative figures in Macau’s legal theory and practice, with many years of teaching experience.
