During the meeting, Dean Wouter Devroe of the KU Leuven Faculty of Law and Vice Dean for International Affairs Paul Schoukens engaged in pragmatic discussions with the delegation. The two sides conducted in-depth consultations on key issues including student exchanges, joint doctoral programs, reciprocal visiting professorship appointments, and regular academic exchanges. By aligning cooperation areas with the disciplinary strengths of both faculties, they reached multiple consensuses and consolidated the foundation for long-term collaboration.

During the visit, Dean Peng Chengxin was invited to deliver a special lecture, chaired by Professor Bernard Tilleman, former Dean of the KU Leuven Faculty of Law, and attended by over a hundred faculty members and students. Dean Peng delivered a lecture titled Structural Innovations and Institutional Features of China’s Civil Code, explaining the institutional strengths and legislative innovations of China’s Civil Code. The lecture featured a lively atmosphere and active interaction, effectively helping overseas students understand the achievements of China’s rule of law construction and deepening Sino-European academic exchanges in legal studies.

Subsequently, the two sides held a signing ceremony. Dean Peng Chengxin and Dean Wouter Devroe jointly signed an annex to the Summer School cooperation agreement, further detailing the specifics of the summer program collaboration between the two faculties. The signing was witnessed by three Vice Deans Paul Schoukens, Elise Muir, and Wouter Druwé—advancing the implementation and quality improvement of short-term study and research cooperation between the two institutions.

After the signing, Dean Wouter Devroe accompanied the delegation on a tour of the KU Leuven Library, where both sides exchanged experiences on the co-construction and sharing of academic literature resources and on teaching and research support services. Finally, Dean Peng Chengxin met with Professor Matthias Vanhullebusch (Chinese name: Ma Tianci) of the University of Hasselt, who previously served as a professor at the KoGuan School of Law for more than ten years, as well as faculty and student representatives who will participate in the SJTUKU Leuven Summer School in 2026, and representatives of KoGuan alumni studying in Belgium and Germany. He conveyed the care and warm regards of the school to the overseas alumni and built bridges to strengthen alumni connections abroad.
