KoGuan School of Law held the 2021 Fall Semester Class Meeting for International Students

On 27 October, the first class meeting for 2021 fall semester international students was held. Hosted by Professor Hou Liyang (Assistant Dean of the KoGuan School of Law), the meeting was attended by teachers from the International Program Office and both domestic and international students.

PhD student Onur Sabri Durak introduced his experiences of study in China and Europe over the past two years and his research on China's maritime law. His ongoing article“ Protection of Polar Regions Against Marine Pollution Caused by Maritime Casualties” discusses whether the existing international law regime can provide adequate protection for the Polar Regions.

PhD student Lamine Balde shared his thesis “ International Tax Reform: A Paradigm Shift from Neoliberal Ideology” discussing two dimensions of government tax system management under the pandemic.

Graduate student Xu Chongkai introduced the proportionality of restricting international travel during the pandemic. He pointed out that there is a big gap between theory and practice with such restrictions during the pandemic, and many scholars have expressed different opinions on whether travel restriction violate the proportionality requirement under international law.

Graduate student Zhang Zhiyuan shared her experience of learning Russian as an undergraduate student, and her decision to study at KoGuan School of Law. She also expressed her expectations for the future.

Afterwards, PhD student Durak shared his challenges coming back to SJTU and his thoughts on China's travel restrictions.

PhD student Dennis Nikolaus introduced his research on digital RMB, noting its unique and distinct standing amongst other payment methods.

Graduate student Chen Yiqun introduced his research on selling and riders platforms, analyzing it from both the perspectives of industry and society.
