From October 6 to 10, 2025, a delegation led by Professor Peng Chengxin, Dean of the KoGuan School of Law, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, visited the FGV Law School of São Paulo (Brazil), the University of São Paulo (including its China Center and Law School), and the Law School of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru successively. Centered on legal education collaboration, joint talent cultivation, and foreign-related rule of law research, this South American trip featured multiple in-depth dialogues. It aimed to deepen academic ties with South American universities and inject new impetus into serving the "Belt and Road" Initiative. During the trip, the delegation reached a number of cooperation consensuses with four top-tier institutions, further improving the KoGuan School of Law's academic cooperation network in South America.

During the visits, the FGV Law School of São Paulo, the Law School of the University of São Paulo, and the Law School of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru all demonstrated a strong willingness to cooperate and reached consensuses on core cooperation directions. Focusing on practical needs under the "Belt and Road" Initiative, the three institutions showed interest in research cooperation in areas such as legal risk prevention and control for Chinese enterprises investing in South America, cross-border data compliance, and international environmental law.

Meanwhile, they attached great importance to personnel exchanges, agreeing to promote programs like student exchanges and summer academic workshops to build an international platform for teachers and students to learn and communicate. Some institutions also proposed combining online courses with on-site visits (e.g., to Chinese courts, law firms, or Brazilian judicial institutions) to enhance teachers' and students' international perspectives and understanding of rule of law practices.

Accompanying the delegation were Associate Professor Cao Bo (Vice Dean of the KoGuan School of Law), Professor Yang Li, and Associate Professor Zhang Guobin (Dean's Assistant).

This visit is a key measure for the KoGuan School of Law to implement the national "Belt and Road" Initiative and promote the cultivation of foreign-related rule of law talents. In the future, taking this visit as a starting point, the school will continue to deepen cooperation with South American universities, cultivate foreign-related rule of law talents with "a Chinese perspective, understanding of South America, and international competence," and contribute "SJTU wisdom" and "SJTU strength" to China-Brazil-Peru legal cooperation and cultural exchanges.
