In May 2011, KoGuan Law entered into educational cooperation agreements separately with Waseda University Graduate School of Law and Singapore Management University (SMU) School of Law. The agreements are signed by KoGuan Dean Ji Weidong, Waseda University Graduate School of Law Dean Koji Ohmi (近江幸治) and SMU Law School Dean Michael Furmston. Both agreements provide for student exchange as well as the academic and research collaboration.
The Waseda University Faculty of Law is one of the most powerful juristic education and research institution in Japan. Founded in 1882, it now consists of three schools: the School of Law (for undergraduate legal education), the Graduate School of Law (for academic graduate legal education, Japan's largest academic graduate legal eduation institution), and the Waseda Law School (for 3-year professional J.D. Program).
SMU School of Law was founded in 2007. It now offers a 4-year full-time LLB programme, a 3-year full-time graduate Juris Doctor (J.D.) Programme, as well as a 5-year double-degree programme which combines law with SMU's existing non-law programmes in Accountancy, Business, Economics, Information Systems and Social Sciences.
The educational cooperation agreements will greatly enhance the collaboration between KoGuan Law and the two new partner law schools.
