On May, 2011, KoGuan Law entered into educational cooperation agreements with Duke University School of Law (Duke Law). The agreements are signed by KoGuan Dean Ji Weidong and Duke Dean David Levi and provide for student exchange, faculty exchange, as well as the academic and research collaboration between the two law schools. 

Duke Law is one of the top law schools in the United States, with particular strengths in areas of business, corporate, finance, intellectual property,  environment, and public law. Duke Law has a long tradition of enrolling law students from China in its J.D. and LL.M. programs and offers courses in the law of China and other Asian countries both in Durham and at its Asia/America Institute in Hong Kong. In 2011, Duke Law intends to establish an Asian-Pacific Legal Studies Center to further develop law teaching and scholarship pertaining to this region and further collaboration with law scholars from Asia.

The two law schools started the official contact from March 2010, when the official delegation of KoGuan Law led by Dean Ji visited Duke Law. Finding their strengths and interests to be complementary, the two institutions entered into discussions concerning mutually-beneficial cooperative programs. In May 2010, Associate Dean Paul Haagan visited KoGuan Law with the official delegation of Duke University. In December 2010, Dean Ji visited Duke Law again with the official delegation of Shanghai Jiao Tong University led by President Zhang Jie. These visits have eventually led to the conclusion of the agreements between the two law schools.

The educational cooperation agreements will greatly enhance the collaboration between KoGuan Law and Duke Law, particularly in the area of Chinese law and financial law. The two institutions are committed to support jointly-taught courses and become partner institutions to each other’s research centers. To facilitate educational and research exchanges, activities such as joint conferences and symposia, and joint research projects will be hosted and launched by the two institutions.
