The University of Adelaide and KoGuan School of Law host the 2017 Chinese Law Winter Class together

The first Chinese Law Winter Class was held by KoGuan School of Law of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the University of Adelaide in KoGuan School of Law from November 19, 2017 to November 30, 2017. The attendance of this Adelaide Winter Class amounted to 33 students and the winter team leader of the University of Adelaide was Associate Professor Liu Nengye whose majored in Chinese Law.
 
On the evening of November 20, all the students of the Winter Class and teachers in charge of the project participated in the opening ceremony in the teachers’ activity center at Xuhui Campus. The two-week Winter Class was officially launched. This Winter Class was rich in content and varied in form. It not only included course teaching and training, but also provided visits to the judicial organs and top international law firms.

After in-depth discussion by both partners, a total of eight Chinese Law courses were selected for this Winter Class, covering law subjects such as Financial Law, Investment Law and Legal Sociology, so as to make students of the Winter Class understand the general situation of Chinese Law. All courses were taught in English, and the lectures were arranged in KoGuan School of Law at Xuhui Campus.
 
In addition to the course lectures, the law school arranged a variety of visits for students. On the afternoon of November 22, led by a teacher of the international project office, students visited the History Museum of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Qian Xuesen Library. During their study in Shanghai Jiao Tong University, students firstly learned about the school's history and rigorous academic atmosphere to help students understand the law school better. Afterwards, the teacher took everyone to Shanghai Arbitration Commission and introduced the daily work flow of the arbitration tribunal and compared the differences with the work mode of the Arbitration Commission of Australia so as to make everyone understand the legal culture of arbitration in China better.

On November 25, the teacher of international project office showed them visited the Suzhou Humble Administrator's Garden and Suzhou Museum. On November 26, they visited a typical ancient town of Xitang in the south of the Yangtze River and learned about the ancient town culture of China.
 
On the afternoon of November 28, the students came to the International Financial Center in Lujiazui and visited the famous Zhong Lun Law Firm. Focusing on the questions they were interested in and the career directions that they might pursue in the future, the students asked the partners of the law firm one after another, showing great interest in the profession of lawyers.
 
On the afternoon of November 29, the students visited the People's Court of Minhang District in Shanghai. With the help of the teachers and present staffs, the students learned about the institutional settings and functions of the court. In the discussion session after the visit, the students enthusiastically communicated with the teachers and judges.
 
On the night of November 30, the certificate awarding ceremony and farewell dinner of the Winter Class were held in the teachers’ activity center at Xuhui Campus. The participants said that their first time to China made them deeply feel the legal culture of this traditional oriental country. KoGuan School of Law expressed that we hoped to use this opportunity to attract more foreign students to have the opportunity to study in the Chinese Law Project at KoGuan School of Law in the future. And they can enjoy the landscape of China and learn more about China.
