KoGuan School of Law Delegation Visits Renowned Law Schools at the University of California, USA

From April 29 to May 2, Professor Peng Chengxin, Dean of the KoGuan School of Law of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, led a delegation to visit the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco, the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law, and the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Law. The visit aimed to continuously deepen the "going global" and "bringing in" international cooperation strategies, establish closer ties with top U.S. law schools, and provide strong support for the cultivation of foreign-related legal talents. The delegation members included Guo Yanjun, Associate Dean of KoGuan School of Law; Wang Xianlin, Chair Professor; Yuan Ye, Executive Director of the Law Library; and Yin Lan, Deputy Director of the Internationalization Office.

 

The University of California College of the Law, San Francisco warmly welcomed the delegation. Professor David Faigman, Dean; Ms. Jenny S. Kwon, Associate Dean; Professor Binyamin Blum, Associate Dean for International Programs; and Professor Keith Hand, Director of the East Asian Legal Studies Center, attended the reception.

 

Both sides introduced the development of their respective institutions and jointly reviewed the cooperation history and fruitful achievements in recent years. Peng Chengxin spoke highly of the long-term collaboration between the two law schools and expressed the hope to enhance in-depth cooperation in talent exchange programs, joint student cultivation, academic exchanges, and other areas in the future. The University of California College of the Law, San Francisco also introduced its upcoming online curriculum program to the delegation and expressed its willingness to cooperate with KoGuan School of Law in this field, as well as its expectation to expand collaboration in more areas in the future.

 

At the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law, Professor Daniel A. Farber, a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Director of the Center for Law, Energy and Environment, and internationally renowned environmental law scholar, and Professor Fan Dai, Director of the California-China Climate Institute, exchanged views with the delegation on visiting scholar programs and collaborative research on climate-related legal issues. Peng Chengxin proposed strengthening comprehensive cooperation with Berkeley’s Center for Law, Energy and Environment in legal research on climate and the environment, as well as related talent cultivation.

 

At the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Law, the delegation was warmly received by Professor Kal Raustiala; Lara Stemple, Assistant Dean for Graduate and International Student Programs; Jessica Peake, Director of the International and Comparative Law Program; and others. Both sides introduced the history and current development of their respective law schools and held in-depth discussions on cooperation in dual-degree programs, student exchanges, summer exchange programs, and other areas.
