 What is the LL.M. Program in Chinese Law?

The LL.M. (Master of Laws) Program in Chinese Law is a graduate law program. It has a focus on Chinese civil and commercial law and offers foreign law students and legal professionals an excellent opportunity to study Chinese law and legal process and engage in Chinese and comparative law research.
 


 Who is eligible for admission to the LL.M. Program?

To be considered for admission to the LL.M. Program, an applicant must have a first law degree (J.D., LL.B. or the equivalent) from a law school/department outside Mainland China or meet one of the following requirements:

1)  Enrollment in a graduate program in a law school/department outside Mainland China, or

2)  Qualification to practice law in a jurisdiction outside Mainland China.



Can Chinese apply to the LLM Program?

The LLM Program is in general offered to foreign law students and legal professionals who are pursuing or have completed their law studies in a non-Chinese university or comparable institution. However, we do accept students and legal professionals from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan.



Do you require TOEFL or IELTS score?

A TOEFL or IELTS score must be submitted to apply for the LL.M., S.J.D. and exchange student programs for non-native speakers of English because all the LL.M. courses are taught in English.


How much does it cost to attend the KoGuan Law School?

The total tuition for the two-year 32 credit hour LL.M. program is RMB¥ 150,000: RMB¥ 100,000 for the first year and RMB¥ 50,000 for the second. Students should pay RMB¥ 100,000 in the first semester before registration and RMB¥ 50,000 in the second year.

For exchange students who stay for one semester and study a minimum 12 credit hour program, the tuition is RMB¥ 50,000.


 Do you offer scholarships?

The LL.M. and S.J.D. Programs offer a limited number of scholarships to LL.M. and S.J.D. students. The scholarship may pay up to a fifth of the total tuition.



  What is your LLM application deadline?

The LLM Program in Chinese Law adopts a rolling admission policy. There is no application deadline. Applications are accepted throughout the year. Students may apply to enter the LLM Program at the beginning of either the fall or spring semester. Although there is no official application deadline, applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible.


What materials shall be submitted when applying for the LL.M. Program?

To apply for the LL.M. program, applicants must submit the following application materials:

B.      Official transcripts

C.      Degree certificate or certificate of enrollment

D.      Two letters of recommendation

E.       Personal statement

F.       TOEFL or IELTS score for non-native speakers of English who did not receive their legal education entirely in the English language

G.      A non-refundable application fee of RMB¥ 400

 Where is the KoGuan Law School located?

The KoGuan Law School is currently located in the Minhang campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. We will move to the Xuhui Campus which is located in downtown in the year of 2012. For more information on SJTU campuses, please view the SJTU campus maps.



 Will SJTU provide housing for international students?

SJTU provides on-campus housing to international students in both Minhang campus and Xuhui campus. We strongly recommend international students to apply for university accommodation. For detailed information on student housing on campus, please view accommodation.
