KoGuan Overseas Visiting Scholar Grants Program

The project “Academic Visit and Exchange of Overseas Brightest Students and Youth Legal Scholars” is set up according to the Clause 4 (2) of Supplemental Agreement (V) of the Donation Agreement concluded between Leo KoGuan Foundation and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, with the purpose of encouraging students and young scholars from world first class law schools to visit KoGuan School of Law, SJTU of Shanghai Jiao Tong University for academic exchange.

  • Funding Quota and Exchange Duration

The project provides funding annually for 2-5 Ph.D. students from overseas first class law schools or outstanding youth legal scholars below 40 years old who come to KoGuan School of Law, SJTU for short term academic visits or exchange of 3-6 months and the minimum duration for the short term academic visit shall not be less than 3 months and generally is not longer than 6 months.

  • Funding Amount and Content

The total amount of the project is RMB 250,000 Yuan annually(Pretax) and the annual balance can be adjusted to be used next year. The funding covers round-trip ticket and part of living cost during the academic visiting period.

(1)The funding standard for Ph.D. students is: RMB 10,000 Yuan per month for living expenses, and one-time funding of RMB 5,000 Yuan (Asian regions) to RMB 10,000 Yuan (Non-Asian areas) for round-trip ticket costs.

(2)The funding standard for outstanding youth legal scholars is: RMB 15,000 Yuan per month for living expenses, and one-time funding of RMB 5,000 Yuan (Asian regions) to RMB 10,000 Yuan (Non-Asian areas) for round-trip ticket costs.

  • Evaluation Organization

The Party and Administration Joint Meeting of KoGuan School of Law is authorized by the KoGuan Development Fund Management Committee of KoGuan School of Law. The Deputy Dean in charge of international affairs or the Assistant to the Dean is responsible for the selection, organization and other specific tasks of this project under the supervision and guidance of Party and Administration Joint Meeting.

  • Evaluation Standard

The evaluation committee will make assessment of the applicant according to the international ranking, academic background, research project, etc. of the school the applicant attends. The specific selection criteria are formulated by the Party and Administration Joint Meeting and reported to the KoGuan Development Fund Management Committee for filing.

  • Evaluation Procedure

for the fund shall be proposed by the co-advisor of the applicant to the Deputy Dean who is responsible for international affairs or the Assistant to the Dean of KoGuan School of Law, SJTU.

Based on the principle “find and fund”, the project is carried out occasionally throughout the year and submitted to the evaluation committee for deliberation in the first week of the odd months throughout the year.

The evaluation committee is composted of five professional teachers from KoGuan School of Law, SJTU and will make initial evaluation of the applicant’s qualification. The Deputy Dean who is responsible for international affairs or the Assistant to the Dean of KoGuan School of Law, SJTU and the co-advisor of the applicant are ex officio members of the Evaluation Committee. Other professional teachers shall be nominated by the Party and Administration Joint Meeting of KoGuan School of Law, SJTU, but these teachers must be the members of the scholarship committee from KoGuan School of Law, SJTU.

The initial evaluation result shall be submitted by the Deputy Dean or the Assistant to the Dean who is responsible for international affairs to the Party and Administration Joint Meeting of KoGuan School of Law, SJTU to approve.
